What is Olympic Women’s Ski Halfpipe?
Freestyle ski halfpipe is contested in the same venue as snowboard halfpipe, with skiers launching off the walls of a semi-circular snow pipe to perform aerial tricks. Each competitor takes three runs in the final, with judges scoring out of 100 on amplitude, difficulty, variety, execution and progression. The highest single run counts.
The event made its Olympic debut at Sochi 2014.
When did the Women’s Halfpipe Final Take Place?
The final was held on Sunday 22 February 2026, the closing day of the Milano Cortina Games. It had been rescheduled from 21 February due to heavy snowfall that forced course preparation delays.
Where was it Held?
Livigno Snow Park, high in the Italian Alps close to the Swiss border, staged all Olympic snowboard and freestyle skiing park and pipe events at Milano Cortina 2026. Livigno sits at around 1,800 metres above sea level and offered reliable pipe conditions throughout the Games.
Results
Gu won gold with a third-run 94.75, overtaking Li Fanghui’s 93.00 with her final drop-in. Zoe Atkin of Great Britain took bronze with 92.50. Gu had been in only fifth place after two runs before landing a huge left-side double 1260 to seal gold.
It was Gu’s third medal of these Games, following silvers in big air and slopestyle. Across her two Olympic appearances she now has three golds, two silvers and one bronze.
Background and Form Going In
Gu had been the dominant figure in women’s halfpipe since Beijing 2022 but had fallen in qualifying at Milano Cortina, adding drama to the final. Li Fanghui was the reigning world champion. Atkin was Britain’s most consistent women’s halfpipe skier in recent seasons. American Hanna Faulhaber, Canada’s Cassie Sharpe (2018 Olympic champion) and Estonia’s Kelly Sildaru all reached the final.
History and Records
Gu’s sixth Olympic medal made her the most decorated freestyle skier in Winter Olympic history, overtaking Canada’s Alex Bilodeau and others. Her back-to-back halfpipe gold medals also made her the first woman to successfully defend an Olympic ski halfpipe title.
