The Barcelona Grand Prix takes place from 12 to 14 June 2026 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, marking a new chapter for Formula 1 racing in Spain’s Catalonia region. Formerly known as the Spanish Grand Prix, the event has been rebranded following Madrid’s arrival on the F1 calendar, but Barcelona remains one of the most established and respected venues in the sport.

What to Expect

The 2026 season represents a seismic shift in Formula 1, with sweeping new regulations covering engines, chassis, tyres, and fuel. Active aerodynamics, featuring moveable front and rear wing elements, have transformed car performance and overtaking dynamics. The Barcelona round, ninth on the calendar, will be a crucial indicator of which teams have mastered the new rules after the opening flyaway races.

Mercedes head to Barcelona as the team to beat. Kimi Antonelli leads the drivers’ championship on 72 points, with team-mate George Russell close behind on 63. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are well placed in third and fourth, while defending champion Lando Norris and McLaren have ground to make up. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull has struggled to find its feet under the new regulations, sitting ninth in the standings, though few would bet against a resurgence at a circuit where he has won three times in recent years.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has long been a favourite for testing, meaning teams know every inch of its 4.657 km layout. The 66-lap race covers 307.236 km across a track that blends high-speed sweeps with technical low-speed corners. Turn 3, a demanding right-hander, remains one of the best tests of downforce and balance on the entire calendar. The current lap record stands at 1:15.743, set by Oscar Piastri in 2025.

How to Watch

Race start is scheduled for 13:00 local time (CEST/UTC+2) on Sunday 14 June. In the United Kingdom, Sky Sports F1 holds exclusive live broadcasting rights. In the United States, Apple TV is the new home of F1 following a landmark deal that runs through to 2032, with F1 TV bundled at no extra cost for subscribers. Viewers in Spain can watch on DAZN and Movistar+. F1 TV Pro provides live coverage in most other territories worldwide.

Venue and Tickets

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is located in Montmelo, approximately 20 km north-east of Barcelona city centre. Built as part of the 1992 Olympic development programme, the venue has hosted Formula 1 since 1991 and is one of the longest-serving circuits on the current calendar. General admission tickets offer access to open viewing areas at budget-friendly prices, while grandstand seats start from around 640 EUR, with premium hospitality packages available up to 3,329 EUR. Tickets are available through the official F1 ticketing platform and the circuit’s own website at circuitcat.com. Grandstand A at Turn 1 is widely regarded as the best spot for overtaking action.

Under a new rotation agreement with Spa-Francorchamps, Barcelona will host F1 in even-numbered years (2026, 2028, 2030, 2032), making each visit all the more significant for fans of this historic circuit.
